When I first saw Pininfarina’s Birdcage back in 2008, I immediately wanted to try and build an electric version of it. At that time Tesla Motors was a small exotic EV manufacturer and most of engineers still believed that EV future is far away. So this project was pretty crazy at that time.
I’ve designed most of it, built significant portion, but eventually shut down the project due to lack of funds and time.
But more importantly, during this project I understood the real problems and issues of electric vehicles and eventually came up with many ideas and designs, some of which I’ve patented, others are patent pending. For instance I’ve patented an electric drive train and developed a magnetic topology for an electric motor (patent pending).
